Business owners wear many hats and so it is often difficult to stay focused on the really important things. As 2014 speedily arrives here are the 3 critical things for you to focus on.
1. Yourself
Without you the business would not exist and without you the business will not thrive. So focus on yourself:
- Your health ‘ growing a business is not an easy task and it requires your undivided attention. It is important you stay healthy so you can give it your all. Your family agrees with me!
- Your attitude ‘ stay positive! Easier said than done sometimes but a positive attitude is infectious (your team and clients will be affected by it) and it goes a long way to a healthy body and mind.
- Your family ‘ make sure you spend quality time with your family. This balances your life and it prevents lingering resentment to fester.
2. Your Team
While the business won’t thrive without you it definitely won’t grow without your team. We have a mantra that goes like this:
I cannot grow my business without the help of other people who can do some of my work better, faster and more efficiently than me, allowing me to be doing what I should be doing; growing the business.
Nurture the team. Give them your fullest attention; correct them when necessary and praise them when appropriate. And when hiring new people make sure they are the right fit for the team.
3. Your Ideal Client
Stay focused on your ideal client. These are the people who love and trust you and happily write cheques to you. It is very easy to sway from this focus, but don’t! You know them well and so you can provide additional services and products for them.
And one final thought ‘ plan!
As Philip Orsini wrote; “Companies don’t fail because they grow. They fail because they don’t PLAN their growth.”
Make sure your Goals for 2014 are measurable and take the business towards your long term vision. Develop clear Strategies on how to achieve each goal. And set your 90 Day Focus to keep you on track towards achieving the goals.
