Your business will not grow by magic! Its growth requires your dedication, your experience, your leadership, and most of all your time. Time to develop and manage realistic growth plans and time to prepare your company for growth.
Time. Yes your time! Depending on how aggressively you want to grow you will need to dedicate up to 2 days a week planning and managing the growth. To create this time you will need to delegate much of your work. Delegation is not easy and it takes a lot of your time up front but pays back in time dividends down the road. Delegation also helps your business mature and therefore grow.
Strategic Growth Plan. A strategic growth plan is a working document that provides you and your team with the road map to manage and control the company growth. It clearly identifies the long term measurable objectives and links them to specific actions to be undertaken in the next year. The plan provides your team with a common understanding of where the company is going and how it will get there.
Business Model. Growth comes with the reality that the company will get bigger and more complex. To prepare yourself and your business for that future you draw up a high level picture of how you see your business operating in 1, 2 and 3 years. A future business model allows you to get the right people in the right positions at the right time. It also provides the blueprint to prepare the systems and processes for the bigger more complex world.
So there is no magic wand for successful business growth. And there are no miracles. It is all up to you! As Peter Drucker, the guriest of all business gurus, once wrote: “Miracles are great but they are so unpredictable.”
